Northville is one of several Michigan communities that have brought
the dog park experience to their residents. The Northville system
currently includes two dog parks, Cady Street (.7 acres) and Community
Park (4 acres). Both parks are popular and have a number of
regular users.
The success of the Northville Dog Parks is due in part to the unique,
mandatory education session that is required for all potential system
users. Many dog parks require only vaccinations to participate, while
the Northville system requires dog license, vaccinations and attendance
at an education session. We believe that our requirements result
in a better educated participant who understands their responsibility as
a dog park user. We now allow non-Northville residents to
purchase passes for the Community Park Dog Park only.
How do I join the Northville Dog Park system?
Step 1
Attend a
mandatory education session.
These sessions are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month 6:45pm at
the Community Senior Center 303 West Main Street (Banquet Room).
The sessions last about 30-40 minutes and are conducted by volunteer
members of the Dog Park. No need to RSVP or bring anything to the
session; just be interested in joining the dog park. You will not
be providing payment for the dog park pass at the session.
An additional Dog Park Education Session will be
held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 9:00am. The session will be held at
the Community Senior Center.
The education session will review the park rules and operating hours,
responsibilities of the users, behaviors you will observe in your dog
while at the dog park, and the process for obtaining the pass. At
the conclusion of the session, you will be given the actual application
to purchase a pass. Only one member of the household is required
to attend the session.
Step 2
Obtain a current
dog license and vaccinations.
Licenses are accepted from whatever community you reside in.
Vaccinations that are required for a dog park pass purchase are rabies,
bordatella and DHLLP (distemper). You will need to bring proof of
these items with you when you register for a dog park pass.
Step 3
Purchase your pass at the Northville Parks and Recreation
Department office.
The Parks and Recreation Department is located in the rear of Hillside
Middle School (Eight Mile Road and Center Streets). Office hours
are 7:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday. You will need to bring
the Dog Park application you received at the education session, proof of
dog license and vaccinations. Payment may be made by check, cash
or credit card (MC/Visa, Discover, American Express). You will be
issued a key fob that will allow you and your dog access to the park.
You may use the park immediately upon receiving the fob.
Step 4
Have a great experience using the Northville Dog Park system!
